Historical monument for sure! It's on my to do list to visit one day. :) Vermont is where the Morgan breed originated- the statue is of Figure- the first Morgan, who was the little horse who could (and did). He is also the only horse known to have started an entire breed solely by himself! He had such strong characteristics that they would come through no matter what he was bred to, and that still holds true today.
Today was a peak fall foliage day, so tour buses were hitting the UVM Morgan Farm , certainly one of the most beautiful horse farms anywhere around. The Justin Morgan statue was erected in 1921, and the main barn was built in the late 1870s.At one point, this farm bred Morgans with the prefix "US", signifying that the so named horses were United States property, meant for cavalry units.
